Temporaries show some permanent class

When you win an award from a local recruitment agency that has had 25,000 workers on its books, you know you must
be doing something right.

Carla Bourne and Claire Leeves won awards for their work in Chester and Ellesmere Port, respectively, from The Business Connection.

“We love to reward our outstanding workers,” said Kirsty Craig, the managing director of Chester’s longest established recruitment agency, who presented Carla and Claire with
a case of wine each.

“We’re in an unusual business because we have two customers: the employers and the candidates. We never overlook the fact that our candidates are as important to our business as our clients, not least because they can go on to become our clients of the future.”

It was the recommendations of The Business Connection’s clients that helped secure the honours for candidates Carla and Claire.

Carla’s boss at a large finance company in Chester where she has been an administrator for 10 months said: “She is quick to learn, hard working and reliable. She has a lovely nature and is a pleasure to have on the team. If I had another 20 like her I'd be laughing.”

Carla had been finding it hard to get a job due to a lack of office experience, but The Business Connection put her forward for the role after recognising her ability to work well within a team and her friendly personality, along with her good computer skills and typing speed.
“I love the team I work with. The role has given me a better understanding of how businesses work,” says Carla.

Carla’s assignment finishes at the end of August but she is confident that The Business Connection, with its clients in the Wirral, Flintshire, Shropshire, Cheshire and Wrexham areas, will help her find another role.

Claire, who has been working for a year at a petroleum and petrochemical technology company in Ellesmere Port, has enjoyed it so much that she wants to turn her temporary role into a permanent one.

“I’d initially wanted temping for the flexibility but I’ve really settled in. I feel like a real part of the team,” said Claire. “I’d like to build a long-term career.”

The signs look good for Claire too, with her line-manager saying: “She is such a valuable member of our team. I can’t imagine the department without her.

“Claire is always upbeat and able to overcome various problems. There’s never a complaint from her, she’s a real pleasure to work with.”

And with Claire eyeing off a full-time role thanks to The Business Connection, the question now is who’s going to win next year’s temping award as the agency races towards its 20th year in business.
