TBC acknowledges an outstanding achievement... Held at Chester Cathedral on 4th June, the Chester University's annual Valedictory Service and Prize-Giving, saw several students rewarded for their excellent achievements academically, while others were recognised for fantastic voluntary work, sporting success, environmental awareness and contributions to university life. The winner of The Business Connection Award, a prize awarded to the student who has demonstrated through their voluntary work, outstanding skills and abilities of an enterprising nature, was this year presented to Kirsty Ashton. Kirsty is a remarkable young woman, despite suffering from Neurofibromatosis, she has raised in excess of £65,000 for the 'Make a Wish Foundation' by running a series of charity events. Kirsty contacted local businesses and has made short promotional films for them in return for their sponsorship of her events. She also contacted members of the Coronation Street cast and persuaded them to help raise money at her events. She is combining all this with her studies in Media and Radio production and plans to continue to raise funds for this charity. This is the 11th year in which The Business Connection has made this award…Kirsty Craig, CEO said "We are absolutely delighted and proud to continue our support of the University in this way. To see young people willing to commit their time and themselves year after year to helping and supporting others who are less fortunate, is inspiring. Kirsty Ashton’s achievements are particularly significant because of what she herself has to cope with on a daily basis. I stand in awe of Kirsty and our previous winners of this award, and will watch their progress in life with great interest." |
